Tap Truck: The Ultimate Side Hustle, Chapter Two

As you read in Chapter One of The Ultimate Side Hustle Blog series, running a mobile bar as a side hustle can be a lot of fun and an excellent way to make some extra income, if not a lot of extra income.

But, just as importantly, there are many things to remember and employ when owning and operating a mobile bar side hustle (or full-time gig), three of which are outlined below.

1. The money is coming in consistently, and it is safe to jump ship from your unsatisfactory day job.

Ideally, you will have set a sales number that you’d be comfortable reaching before leaving your career or other job. This number should account for overhead, staffing expenses, and leave you enough “meat” to take an owner’s draw (or salary if you’re going to be a W-2 employee) while also reinvesting in the business. Consistently hitting that number is the key.  And if you are doing that, then you should be good to go full-time with your mobile bar business.

2. Consistency is King!

It can be hard to determine “consistency” given the ebbs and flows of the different event seasons in most areas, which is why we recommend 18 months to be the magic number in knowing how well your mobile bar side hustle will do over the long haul.  If you get one full year of sales records and can see in the final 6 months (of your 18-month window) how you are doing over the previous year, plus what the ongoing trend was for the current year.  You will hopefully see that your mobile bar side hustle is killing every single sales goal you had, and you haven’t even hit your major event months yet. All signs are pointing in the right direction that sales will continue.

But keep in mind, that all of this is fully dependent on you and the effort that you put in to find more and more events to help grow your new business.  We have no doubt you will succeed.  You just need to put in the work.

3. Don’t let homeostasis get the best of you!

Don’t get complacent just because you think you are kicking ass.  Any successful entrepreneur will tell you IT’S A LOT OF WORK to be a successful, independent business person.  SO, just because your mobile bar side hustle is hitting your goals, don’t rely on homeostasis setting and automatically keeping you in cruise control.  Never take the foot off the gas pedal of your tap truck.  More is more.  And more is better!  Especially when it comes to revenue and amazing cold drinks served from your very own Tap Truck!

SO REMEMBER…all of this is possible by owning your own Tap Truck and being a part of lots and lots of amazing events with even more amazing people…all while serving them the best craft beers and cocktails known to man.
